My Professional Development Plan |
"Setting a goal is not the main thing. It is deciding how you will go about achieving it and staying with that plan."

I am passionate about my faith and about serving others. Throughout my life I desire for my purpose at all times to be helping people with either their spiritual, fiscal, or physical situations. Essentially, I desire to help others with their life skills. I want to do this because I believe there is more than one way to impact a life for the better. Within twenty years of graduation, I want to switch to the non-profit side of things. Either being an executive pastor in a church, or working with the corporate side of a non-profit organization based on building up others. So far I have worked hard at serving those that have been placed around me. By working with Sky Ranch I have had a great opportunity to affect countless amounts of children and families by serving them and relating to them. I would like that to be my legacy. I want to be known as a servant, a man who helped others reach a greater potential.
I believe personally the gap in where I am and where I want to be is experience. I already have the servant’s heart that is willing to do what is needed in order to help others. However, for some of the things I want to do, like be an executive pastor at a church, I believe that I need some more experience. That would come from two places, experience in the professional world as an individual that is learning what business looks like, and experience in the church world that is learning the operations of a church and the process of doing things with a theologically sound mindset. I am seeking after opportunities that are going to give me those experiences. The first of which is working in the professional world. I want to learn how to handle business on a professional level, and also what it is like to work with clients on a daily basis. The second step I would need to take is to get a theological degree. This way I can understand the doctrine behind leading a church body and would know what biblical management looks like. My strengths will play a large roll in my future success. Confidence is important in both the professional world and the church. As an employee I would need to be confident in my decisions and suggestions made to my superiors. Likewise, as a church leader I would need to be confident in the direction the church is heading and the way that I would be leading the congregation. Being a honest and dependable person is also very important for a church leader. I would have to be someone that others feel comfortable approaching with confidential information. My weaknesses are something that I will have to work hard at getting rid of. As a leader in a church I would need to be very conscious of others feelings and pay close attention to the context of my words and how they are being interpreted. I will also have learn how to better listen to others opinions. This is a trait that will fade as I develop more wisdom. My answer is not always the right one, I am learning how to better integrate others ideas into problem solving. |
